The Schuyler R-1 School Board voted to place on the April 3, 2018, ballot a request for a bond in the amount of $1.5 million dollars. This would be used to construct a baseball and softball field next to the new football field on the Schuyler R-1 School grounds. Pictured above is an artist’s rendering of what the complex might look like.
One important thing to note is that this would be a “No Tax Increase” bond. The current tax rate for the school system is $ 4.20 per one hundred dollars of valuation. If this bond passes, the rate will still be $ 4.20. No increase.
Some of the many reasons that this is good thing for the students and the school are:
- Safety reasons, in that the athletes would not have to drive up to the Lancaster fields.
- Control of the grounds for liability purposes.
- The ability to have a facility that would qualify to hold sanctioned tournaments.
There are many rumors that are based in fiction, roaming the county about this program.
There will be meetings scheduled in Greentop, Queen City, Lancaster, and Downing to allow those who are interested in learning the correct information and facts. The dates for each town will be announced. There will also be a meeting at the school. Date and time to be announced.
Vote for or against this bond, but do it based on the facts – not the rumor.
